Position Summary

At AI2, we tackle challenging AI problems that require the successful understanding of natural language. To continue to advance our research and the success of our systems, we require a diverse collection of large datasets related to NLP applications such as semantic role labeling (SRL), part-of-speech (POS) tagging, parsing, named entity recognition (NER), and various other models and approaches.

In this role, you will be designing and writing code to build crowdsourcing pipelines for AllenNLP and Aristo.  You will oversee and execute collecting, managing and maintaining these important research datasets.

Some immediate challenges include building a question set on which to evaluate the Aristo system in 2018 and acquiring a large dataset of coreference annotations to power a state-of-the-art deep learning system.

What you’ll do:

  • Design and implement software pipelines for collecting large volumes of high-quality data and annotations, using crowdsourcing frameworks such as Amazon Mechanical Turk and Crowdflower
  • Develop annotation tools using Javascript and HTML
  • Manually review and curate datasets
  • Maintain, document, and organize datasets for easy access across the organization
  • Build and share common data collection and curation resources
  • Work closely with researchers to develop new approaches to crowdsourcing linguistic data

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience designing and successfully executing crowdsourcing tasks and pipelines
  • Proficiency with a programming languages for building annotation pipelines (Python is preferred)
  • Basic familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Learning (ML) concepts
  • Self-directed problem solving skills
  • (Ideally) some experience developing basic annotation frontends using HTML and Javascript

We are very passionate about our work at AI2 and are looking for an individual who is motivated, enthusiastic and driven to help us succeed.
