Your Engineering Team at DWFritz

Your Challenge

This role requires a high mix of customer and supplier interfacing, people management and principal level vision and applications engineering knowledge and utilization.  The Engineering Manager is responsible for overall management and performance of a vision and applications engineering team against business objectives.  The Engineering Manager will help guide the architecture, design, and development plan for vision and metrology projects, as well as new technology.  This role will significantly contribute to high priority projects by developing, integrating, & debugging vision, other sensor systems, and associated applications.  Additionally, this role will apply statistical analysis to machine performance and customer data analysis including Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility.

Your Responsibilities

  • Manages individual and team performance to meet project and business objectives
  • Leads a vision/apps engineering team in the design of vision systems
  • Leads team in specification of cameras, optics, and lighting for challenging vision applications
  • Maintains state of the art knowledge in vision design and vision application development tools
  • Performs in a working manager position requiring individual contribution to develop vision and other sensor solutions on Engineer-to-Order systems
  • Mentors, coaches, and guides  development for the vision and applications engineering team
  • Provides design guidelines and detailed vision design specifications to other engineers
  • Manages team to deliver appropriate effort and scope of work on ambiguous and challenging applications
  • Assists Technical Director in assessing new technologies and updating the base vision and sensor controls software architecture
  • Suggests new and innovative approaches to solving complex vision and inspection problems
  • Helps drive usage of new and advanced Vision and Inspection technologies
  • Interfaces with customers during proposal development, reviews, buy-off, and installation phases
  • Participates individually or as a team member to develop processes, procedures, and standards
  • Assists in project schedule development
  • Drives personal or company vehicle to customers’ facilities for project meetings, design reviews, start-up training, and follow-up review

Your Qualifications

  • Problem solving, system and methods improvement skills
  • Vision system development skills (Camera, Lens and Lighting selection).
  • Excellent Vision software and applications skills (Cognex, Keyence, Halcon, OpenCV, Matrox).
  • Demonstrated application of PC based vision solutions (10+ years recent experience)
  • Proficient in usage of C#, C++, .Net, (10+ years recent experience)
  • Vision and LASER scanning system experience (Keyence, SmartRay, LMI, Cognex, lighting, optics, calibration, etc.)
  • Exposure and understanding of Deep Learning technologies and tradeoffs
  • Effective hands on problem solving and debugging experience with hardware/software systems
  • PC office software – MS Office suite and project management
  • Working statistical knowledge and application for gage capability studies and process control
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to lead project teams to meet client expectations
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet project deadlines in a multi-tasking environment
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance
  • Requires domestic/international travel for installation and support
  • Must be eligible for or have a valid passport

Your Education and Experience

  • BSEE, BSME, or BSCS with recent and extensive manufacturing machine vision system design experience
  • 10+ years’ experience designing Machine Vision Systems (including image analysis methodology)
  • 8+ years’ experience developing software using VB.NET, C#.NET, or C++.NET
  • Cognex VisionPro, Cognex ViDi, and Keyence Vision Editor Skills a plus
  • BSEE or BSCS with recent manufacturing programming experience
  • Experience with Machine Control, VB.net, C#.net, or C++.net
  • 5 years’ experience in project and leading project based teams
